Dartmouth Tuck MBA For Veterans

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

If you want to get away from crowds and noise, you can’t find a better match of a top MBA program and remoteness than Tuck. In order to ensure applicants understand the environment, Tuck requires that interviewees come to campus to visit Hanover. Tuck is also known for making a huge effort to include partners into the process–an attractive option for veterans who are usually matriculating older and often accompanied. Partners have access to the building, can take classes, and are allowed in all clubs. One vet I spoke with told me how when he arrived on campus early, he was walking through the main building with his wife and two kids when a member of the admissions committee saw him. She immediately recognized him from his file and knew the name of his wife and kids. That’s how much they care.

Few key stats about Tuck (Class of 2021):

  • Rankings: 2019- Forbes (6), Economist (12), US News and World Report (12)
  • Class size: 284
  • Average GPA: 3.52
  • Average GMAT: 723 (620-780 range)
  • With GRE: 21%

The Tuck Veterans Club is extremely helpful; no surprise is for a school with one of their four attributes listed as “nice”. I spoke with a Tuck vet who told me a story about a student vet who got activated while serving as a reservist. He would have to deploy and would not be able to fulfill his requirements to graduate on time. Before he left, they organized a party with over 100 people (and considering the class size- that’s a huge number) to send him off in style. That’s the kind of camaraderie they build at Tuck.

Vet benefits include:

  • Waived admission fee.
  • Military-specific visit day.
  • Yellow Ribbon Program: No cap on the number of awards with a cap at $22,000. This is one of the more generous Yellow Ribbon contributions from an MBA program.
  • Tuck also hosts the Tuck Next Step Program, aimed at addressing the unique challenges veterans and elite athletes face in starting a new civilian career.
  • Nearby VA hospital (less than 20 minutes)
